2023 / 7 x 5 / Micron pen and colored pencil on illustration board
I was invited to create live art by Bridgeport Art Center’s Curator Marci Rubin, aka DJ Veganinblack, for her Satellite party at the historic site of Epiphany Center for the Arts in Chicago. I gifted her Cities In Dust I, and created two other pieces in the same vein for the evening. The title references the quintessential goth track by Siouxie and the Banshees; the style gives a nod to the apocalyptic future forthcoming due to climate change.

2023 / 11 x 9 / Watercolor and ink on board
This view from the lake looking inland at the Sears Tower (it will always be called that to me) in Chicago balances warm and cool hues, and incorporates metallic watercolors for the city lights.

2023 / 9 x 11 / Watercolor and ink on board
This aerial oblique view of the Hancock tower and surrounding Gold Coast neighborhood in Chicago keeps things light and bright with defined outlines.

2022 / 22 x 36 / Oil on primed Fabriano paper
This abstraction of Chicago’s South Side Bridgeport neighborhood was commissioned by a dear lifelong friend. She saw my “Arch I” and “Arch II” paintings, loved the style, and requested one be done featuring her childhood neighborhood. The thick, soft paper with a live edge was primed with Golden medium to keep it from buckling, then float-framed.

2020 / 36 x 48 / Oil on canvas
Initially a friend commissioned me to paint him a photo I took at an underground party. As I struggled to work through the challenges it posed, I realized my heart just wasn’t in it. I threw it in the alley and started over. He asked me to do a cityscape merging different architectural styles - he’s an architect. After 2 comp drawings we settled on this. It is one of my largest oil paintings to date.

2019 / 5 x 7 / Mixed media (watercolor, pencil, marker) on Bristol paper
A friend whose mother past away is an avid lover of techno, specifically the style originating in Copenhagen, Denmark. To offer my support I gifted this drawing which explores the modern architecture boom there.

2019 / 8 x 10 / Watercolor, pencil and marker in sketchpad
A job opportunity presented itself in Seattle and I was looking to immerse myself in its landscape. The iconic Space Needle provided a focal point with the surrounding neighborhoods and natural vegetation as an ideal backdrop. This piece was created at Kite String Cantina in Chicago’s Roscoe Village neighborhood.

2019 / 8 x 10 / Watercolor, pencil and marker in sketchpad
A somewhat unlikely candidate to render, this depiction of the residential areas in Pittsburgh after snowfall sparked a new style using metallic marker, lines and shapes. This piece was created at Kite String Cantina in Chicago’s Roscoe Village neighborhood.

2019 / 8 x 10 / Watercolor, pencil and marker in sketchpad
Sometimes I visit Kite String Cantina in Chicago’s Roscoe Village neighborhood and create watercolors in my sketchbook. After consulting with the bartender, we decided the New Orleans skyline would be a great option. Lights from the city reflect in the water.

2019 / 4 x 4” / Pencil and marker in sketchpad
After speaking with a friend about her recent trip to Cinque Terre, Italy, I was reminded of my short but beautiful time there in 1999. This is the town of Monterosso-Al-Mare.

2019 / 8 x 10 / Watercolor, pencil and marker in sketchpad
The prospect of moving to the West coast intrigues me, so Vancouver was a natural choice to depict in a more abstracted style. This piece was created at Kite String Cantina in Chicago’s Roscoe Village neighborhood.

2019 / 10 x 12 / Watercolor, pencil and marker in sketchpad
Mutek Festival happens annually in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. After attending in 2017 and 2018, I found my love for this city has deepened so I did a quick line study of its skyline. This piece was created at Kite String Cantina in Chicago’s Roscoe Village neighborhood.

A collaboration with Design2Rave - these are for sale at the Milwaukee Art Museum gift shop.

2005 / 24 x 36 / Mixed media on paper (pencil, charcoal, conte, ink) on paper
Featured in the inaugural issue of the Vexed Sphere 1 companion zine, complementing a various artists release of North American techno tracks (April 2021).
I lived in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn from 2000-2006. My railroad apartment’s fire escape at my bedroom window provided a gridded perspective of the houses across the yard.

2005 / 24 x 36 / Mixed media on paper (graphite, charcoal, conte, ink) on paper
While living in Brooklyn I was struck by the way residences co-existed with the industrial landscape. This piece represents this discord within harmony, with explosions in the sky enhance a new way of depicting viewpoints created by the city.

2005 / 16 x 20 / Mixed media on paper (graphite, charcoal, conte, ink) on paper
Blotchy explosions expand to almost touch buildings created from rough yet controlled line work and drips.

Linework and texture form the most abstracted version of this style.

2009 / 6 x 14 / Pencil and ink on paper
A commission came in to feature landmarks in Rome, Italy as the design focal point for a wedding. Using reference of Rome’s architecture, landscape and landmarks, I combined each element to form a mural-style piece that was used on save the date cards, invitations and throughout printed material for the event itself. The couple was married at St. Peter’s Basilica which is the predominant reference point.
